Today we are heading to Switzerland. The Swiss Alps, that means high altitude and snow!
The route for today has been checked for roadblocks because of snow earlier. There are roads closed in the Alps, but we can pass them.
But before we enter Switzerland, we have to go along many Italian highway. Much highway. And Italian highway means: toll road. At the first tollbooth we had to pay, there was a young man. I had no idea what the costs would be and the Italian language stays a bit difficult, but a € 5,- bill was ok for hime and he gave me back € 2,-.
At the next tollbooth, there was an older man. I wanted to give him a € 5,- bill, but that was not enough. He showed me € 50,-. He gave me back very small change. When he opend the barrier and we took off, he began to shout. Maybe Jack had to pay too…we will never know…
At the last tollbooth there was only a payment terminal. The machine was happy with € 27,50.
Very special, the difference of prices. Such a difference with France! So it was an expensive day.
Mid-afternoon it started to rain. But Switzerland is very beuatiful, with its special houses. Unfortunately my photocamera fell on the ground during a photo stop in such a nice village and became total loss.
When we arrived at Oberwald, it turned out that all roads to the North were closed. Closed because of the danger of avalanches. So we went searching for alternative roads, but they were all closed. Eventually we spoke to someone in a village ahead, who told us that taking the train through the Furkatunnel was the only option.
So we went back to Oberwald and bought tickets for the train. The train could carry cars and even small trucks. Our motorbikes could even parked inside the train.
Also a part of the adventure.
The train travel ended in Realp. From there we were looking for a hotel. In Andermatt we found Gasthaus zum Sternen, were we stayed the night.
The planned route to Inertkirchen:
Distance: 470 km
Expected driving time: 6:06u
Lowest point: 161 m
Highest point: 2171 m
The route as driven was 462 km (including train and exclusive search for alternatives).
